Frederick Hart & Michael Wilkinson in Romania
We invite you, starting Thursday, August 1, to the Rotenberg-Uzunov gallery in Bucharest for a unique exhibition in Romania.
We present the works of renowned American artists Frederick Hart and Michael Wilkinson in their second exhibition with us.
The exhibition features some of the fascinating sculptures by the American sculptor Frederick Elliott Hart (November 3, 1943, Atlanta, Georgia - August 13, 1999, Baltimore, Maryland). Creator of hundreds of public monuments, private commissions, portraits, and other artworks, Hart is most famous for Ex Nihilo, part of his Creation Sculptures at the National Cathedral in Washington, and The Three Soldiers (also known as The Three Soldiers) at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC. Hart modeled his work in clay. Many of his larger pieces were sculpted in Italian marble or limestone, or cast in bronze. Throughout his career, Hart explored themes of beauty and spirituality, consciousness and identity, sculpting in transparent and semi-transparent acrylics using a patented process. In 2000, Tom Wolfe profiled Hart for The New York Times Magazine in an article titled: "The Artist the Art World Couldn’t See": “I have not tried to recreate or relive the past; but I have sought guidance from those timeless elements of the past that remain relevant and vital for the future ... The goal of my art is to seek beauty and truth and to explore and glorify the human being and the universe.”

Michael Wilkinson’s art reflects all that is magnificent and beautiful in the human spirit, using the ideal to show us the possibilities in life and the potential within ourselves. Born in California and trained as an architect, Michael Wilkinson began his artistic career in New York in 1979. In 1985, Wilkinson transitioned from working exclusively in bronze to using the young medium of cast acrylic. As a pioneer in this medium, Wilkinson uses acrylic to create dreamlike worlds, communicating complex themes while still incorporating realism in his art. Unlike traditional art, these acrylic sculptures have no beginning or end; no back or front. They are viewed in a new way, studied and observed in their entirety from both inside and outside. Working for nearly two decades with acrylic, Wilkinson constantly expands his talents to sculpt "light" in original ways. “In an age where the purpose of much 'art' is to shock and offend, art of beauty and meaning is a bright spot; it is balm for our eyes and our souls. I believe art should uplift the human spirit. That is why I seek the ideal in my art; the ideal illuminates our potentialities. It is an affirmation of the best within us.” - Michael Wilkinson
The exhibition is organized by Rotenberg Gallery - Uzunov, can be visited from Monday to Friday, between 14:30 -19: 30.
