Arthur Segal was born in Iasi, his parents being Jews.  He studied at the Berlin Academy of Arts in 1892.

In 1896 he studied in Munich, then in 1900 he studied in Italy and Paris. In 1904 he settled in Berlin, where he exhibited with the groups: die ' Brücke' und der ' Blaue Reiter' .

In 1910 he was the co-founder of the Neue Sezession group, and in 1914 he moved to Ascona with his family.

In 1933 he moved to Palma de Mallorca, where he opened a school with his daughter Marianne. His works were influenced by Impressionism and Neo-Impressionism.

From 1910 he started working with a Dadaist influence, and in 1916 he created his own modern style.

• It is a balanced work, all elements being centered consecutively on the same line. The focus is on the left side of the paper through the contrast between white and darker colors.
• The addition of complementary colors red and green appears.
