He studied at the Free Academy of Painting with Arthur Verona, Francisc Sirato and Nicolae Tonița between 1929-1934.He made his debut in Bucharest in 1932, at the Official Salon, and had his first personal exhibition a year later in the Mozart Hall.He has repeatedly exhibited abroad, participating in the Venice Biennale in 1942.It was criticized and noticed by Eugen Ionesco who emphasized the dimension of modernity in the color and composition of Vânătoru's paintings.
