He was born on May 15, 1835, in the village of Pitaru, in a peasant nation. In 1843, after his father's death, he settled in Bucharest.
He spent two years as an apprentice to the painter Chladek. He paints icons at the age of 12. Princess Trubetskoi orders the icons from the church in Băicoi, then paints the icons from Căldărușani.
In 1856 he painted the Zamfira Monastery and then Agapia, between 1858-1860, in neoclassical style. In 1861 he left for Paris where he enrolled in the School of Fine Arts, working in the workshop of Sebastian Cornu. In 1862 he left for Barbizon. He paints landscape and children after Géricault. He returned to the country in 1864 and then went to Paris again, painting at Fontainebleau and Barbizon with Millet, Renoir, Sisley, Monet and Basille; he is attracted to Corot's painting.
Nicolae Grigorescu is the most representative painter of the 19th century. Independent in nature, she could not bear the constraints and the schools. He is an instinctive painter, hence his own manner in execution, clarity, bright color, close to reality and the manner of impressionist painting. He fits brilliantly into the gallery of European Impressionists and is considered the national artist of Romania and the glorious figure of painting. He died on July 21, 1907 in Câmpina.
