Dimitrie Berea was born in 1908 in Bacău. He studied at the Academy of Architecture in Bucharest.

In 1934 he exhibited at the Official Salon and received the Salon Prize for his work L.S. (Lizeta Soarec), this being the moment of her affirmation.

In 1937 he left for Rome on a scholarship and enrolled at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts.Two years later he traveled to Paris. Here he meets Bonnard, Vuillard, Matisse.

In 1942 he graduated from the Royal Academy in Rome, and in 1943 he returned to the country and applied for the position of curator of the Aman Museum.

Since 1946 he has exhibited in various cities around the world: Paris, Cannes, Venice.A friend of Eustațiu Stoenescu, he exhibited with him at the Bernstein Galleries in Paris. In 1951 he exhibited with Braque and Matisse.

He painted in many ways, from impressionism to expressionism and abstractionism.In the early 1960s he traveled to the United States and England, where he established himself as a portrait painter. During this time he also completed the London cycle and the triptych Homage to Paris.

He died in 1975.
